Thornton le Dale Ukuleles

May/June 2021 - we are hoping to play, whenever the weather allows. We have got a gazebo too... just in case! However, to save a wasted journey:

  • We will make a firm decision at noon of the current day, in the light of prevailing weather conditions.
  • An email will be sent at noon to confirm the do please check your inbox!
  • If we have to cancel, we will arrange a Zoom session and email it to all players.

Welcome to Thornton Le Dale Ukuleles. Unfortunately, we are unable to meet at present due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. There are however many on line resources for you to enjoy in the meantime:

We are a Ukulele music group located within the village and as you will see from the photographs below, we have a wide range of ages within the group! We have been playing together since 2013, starting as few players around a kitchen table, and we now number approximatley 60 players! The group is the brainchild of John Scoble who generously gives his time to provide excellent tuition, music and leadership. As well as leading the Thornton Dale Ukuleles John provides tuition to schools and other groups.

News update ... Following our Christmas Singalong concert, we have now raised over £52,000 for Charity since the group was formed.

  • Our Christmas Singalong, on Thursday 5 December, at the Kirk Theatre Pickering, raised over £3600
  • Our concert at the Milton Rooms, Malton on Friday 4 October  - raised £2500 (shared between Ryedale Special Families and the Milton Rooms
  • Our Concert at Helmsley Arts Theatre in April 2019 raised £1000 for Helmsley School

We are very grateful to Ryedale Lions who have funded some Ukuleles for us to loan out to potential new starters, and allowing us to include all ages and abilities. In December 2014 Ryedale Lions recognised John Scoble's dedication by awarding John their 'Service to the Community Award'. In October 2015 John chosen as Volunteer of the year in the NYCC Community Award Scheme  which recognises volunteering in the community. On the 30 September 2015 John was interviewed by Radio York Click here to see BBC Radio York's video of John's interview.

We have great fun playing together and we perform at various venues and concerts. We are often invited to play for local organisations, retirement homes, and charity concerts.

John Scoble, David Swann and Thornton le Dale Ukuleles regularly present concerts together, in aid of various charities, Over recent years we have raised thousands of pound for charities and entertained several thousand people. We play to both large and small audiences.

Our sincere thanks to all those that help with the various concerts. All performers highly praise both the front-of-house and backroom staff, who do such a brilliant job in putting on these very successful events.
