Thornton Le Dale Women's Institute and Friends have created a display of over 1000 poppies, on The Village Green, to mark Remembrance Week. The display will remained in place for the week. Put your mouse on the picture and arrows will appear, to allow you to scroll through the photos.

In late August, two friends from Thornton le Dale WI, agreed that they would like to do something to mark Remembrance Sunday in November, and decided to decorate a bench in the village with poppies. However, on presenting the idea to the September WI branch meeting they received an enthusiastic response, and realised that more could be achieved.

Since September, WI members were busily knitting, crocheting and sewing. On Friday 10 November over 1000 poppies were displayed on Thornton le Dale Village Green. Friends, family and neighbours were recruited to help, and poppies sent from as far away as Florida, USA we're included in the display.

Thornton Le Dale WI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the overall display. There have been many very positive comments and reactions from members of the public. It is hoped to commemorate Remembrance Week 2018, with an even larger display.
