Heart Defibrillator is now available (on the village green)

We are delighted to announce that a Heart Defibrillator has been fitted on the Village Green. £1000 has been donated by the Scarecrow Festival (from sales of Trail Maps, Raffle Tickets and Souvenirs etc.) and Thornton le Dale Parish Council has added £500, to fund the unit.

The new machine is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) which can restart a heart, in those vital minutes immediately following a major heart attack. These AEDs are designed to be used by the general public, at the time of an incident, and without needing any special training. The machine talks to the user, telling you what to do, and has the required equipment in the pack (pads, scissors etc.). It is located in a locked cabinet on the village green, which is illuminated, and is available for use at all times. Local traders will ensure that the unit is kept maintained.

If an incident arises the YOU MUST FIRST CALL 999 to alert the emergency services. The telephone operator receiving the 999 call, will give the caller a code number that opens the cabinet. The telephone operator will also talk the caller through the necessary steps in addition to the AED unit instructions.
