Hill Memorial Institute

Note: Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Institute is currently closed.

The Institute serves the community as a meeting room, hosting the Parish Council, Thornton-le-Dale Show, Scrabble Club and Bridge Club on a regular basis along with craft exhibitions, coffee mornings and many other community activities. The ground floor room including kitchen and toilet facilities can be booked at ‘Wardill Bros’ in the village centre. Hire rates are per hour, with special day rates (available on application).

The ground floor room has many desirable features including:

  • Kitchen and toilet facilities
  • Chairs and Tables
  • Good heating - cosy throughout the year
  • Ceiling Mounted Computer Projector and 6ft Screen
  • Ceiling Mounted Computer Projector and Smartboard

Built by the Village on land donated by the Hill Family and funded by donations in memory of those who gave their lives in the 1st World War. The illuminated clock was donated to the village by the Priestman Family whose home was ‘Brook House’ on Priestman’s Lane.

The upper floor is the home of Thornton-le-Dale Snooker Club. For a small annual subscription club members enjoy the use of a full size snooker / billiard table maintained to match standards. Until recently the club were involved in local league matches on a weekly basis but have had to withdraw due to the lack of available players for the Monday night matches. Anyone interested in becoming a member should contact Helen or John at Wardill Bros (01751 474335) in the first instance.
